Bluebook Select covers 98 schools nationwide, primarily in the Tokyo metropolitan area, selected based on whether they offer returnee quotas or have introduced English as a subject in their admissions. Pathways: Celebrating Japan’s Bilingual Youth is a new publication and online resource created by Kikokushijo Academy and written by KA founder Charles Knudsen. It celebrates and supports Japan’s growing community of bilingual and internationally minded students.
Through in-depth interviews and stories, Pathways highlights the personal journeys of young people who have learned to navigate between cultures, languages, and educational systems — from returnees and international school graduates to bilingual students who developed their English right here in Japan.
Each story offers parents and students insight into how these young people found their direction — how they overcame challenges, built confidence, and discovered purpose through education at home and abroad. Together, these stories show that there is no single route to success, but many “pathways” that lead to meaningful, global futures.
